The Waldemar Siemaszko Ski-Mountaineering Memorial Tournament Regulations - 19.03.2005

§ 1
Waldemar Siemaszko's Memorial Tournament is open to competitors of all nations. The participants share a mass start near the Samotnia Refuge and run a loop back to the Samotnia Refuge.

§ 2
The sole condition of participation is a valid medical test.

§ 3
The participation charge is 30PLN.

§ 4
The three participants finishing in first, second and third positions receive awards, while those finishing in the top ten positions also receive a certificate.

§ 5
Participants may suffer disqualification for a lack of the proper equipment or for missing a checkpoint.

§ 6
In Waldemar Siemaszko's Memorial Tournament only competitors using equipment meeting ISMC criteria will be ranked. These criteria are as follows:
. skis must be equipped with metallic edges along at least 90% of their length, and have a width of at least 60mm beneath the foot; the skis must be at least 160cm long for men and 150cm long for women (a junior participant's skis must be a minimum of 80% of the participant's height); bindings must allow heel movement when ascending or descending
. boots must be high enough to cover the ankles and with notched soles of a Vibram-type or similar; the soles must cover at least 80% of the surface of the foot and the minimum depth of notches is 4 mm; boots must accept metal crampons
Competitors on cross-country or telemark skis will not be ranked.


§ 7
The following items are compulsory and must be brought by each competitor:
. a helmet with the UIAA label
. an avalanche transceiver (frequency 457 kHz).
. an ice-axe (at least 60cm long; this does not apply to espoir, cadet and junior participants)
. crampons (with at least 10 spikes; this does not apply to espoir, cadet and junior participants)
. an accessory cord (7mm in diameter, 2.5m long; this does not apply to junior participants)
. an ascending device (this does not apply to espoir, cadet and junior participants)
. a screwgate carabiner(this does not apply to espoir, cadet and junior participants)
. a seat harness (this does not apply to espoir, cadet and junior participants)
. a first-aid kit (consisiting of two elastic compression bandages, plaster dressings, a rescue blanket and a triangular bandage)


§ 8
Competitors are assigned to ten categories according to gender and age. These categories are as follows:

Junior male and female classification 1985 - 1986
Senior male and female classification 1955 - 1984
Veteran male and female classification 1954 i and above

§ 9
THE COURSE:
Espoir Age Category:
From the Samotnia Refuge first to the Strzecha Akademicka Refuge, then to the Burnt-out Lookout Station (in Polish: Spalona Straznica), then following the red marked trail to Slalom Gully (in Polish: Zleb Slalomowy).
Length: 3.8km.
Vertical drop: 230m.
Time limit for the checkpoint at the Burnt-out Lookout Station: 1h.

Cadet and Junior Age Categories
From the Samotnia Refuge first to Bronek Czech's Meadow (in Polish: Polana Bronka Czecha), then following the green marked trail up to the Great Pond Cirque (in Polish: Kocioł Wielkiego Stawu), changing to the red marked trail to the Slalom Gully (in Polish: Zleb Slalomowy) and running down Slalom Gully to Meta near the Samotnia Refuge.
Length: 7.5km.
Vertical drop: 340m.
Time limit for the checkpoint at Bronek Czech's Meadow: 35min.

Senior and Veteran Age Categories
From the Samotnia Refuge first to Bronek Czech's Meadow (in Polish: Polana Bronka Czecha), then following the green marked trail up to the Great Pond Cirque (in Polish: Kocioł Wielkiego Stawu), changing to the red marked trail to the Slalom Gully (in Polish: Zleb Slalomowy), running down Slalom Gully, to Fajkosz's Gully (in Polish: Zleb Fajkosza), climbing up, running to the Burnt-out Lookout Station (in Polish: Spalona Straznica), running down the White Ravine (in Polish: Bialy Jar), following the black marked trail to Mt. Kopa and then to the Silesian House Refuge (in Polish: Schronisko Slaski Dom), running down to the Lomniczka Cirque (in Polish: Kociol Lomniczki), climbing the Gutter of Death (in Polish: Rynna Smierci) to the Jubilee Road (in Polish: Droga Jubileuszowa), running down to the junction of the red and blue trails (near the chains), ascending to Mt. Snieza top, running down via Jubilee road to the Silesian House Refuge then the Burnt-out Lookout Station and Magdalena's Gully (in Polish: Zleb Magdy) and finally running down to Meta near Samotnia Refuge.
Length: 16.5km.
Vertical drop: 1100m.
Time limit for the checkpoint at the Burnt-out Lookout Station, after the ascent of Fajkosz's Gully: 2.5h.

The Jury approves alternative routes for the competition in the case of bad weather forcing a course change.


§ 10
All claims must be submitted to the Competition Judge within 30 minutes of the publication of race results. All claims must be accompanied by the sum of 50PLN
