Samotnia PTTK Refuge:www.samotnia.com.pl . Accommodation and theoretical classes are provided in the refuge, practical instruction in the Karkonosze Mts.
Participants arrive at the Samotnia Refuge independently.
The program covers:
Firstly, you find out what ski gear you need to get started with your new passion, the differences, advantages and disadvantages of various bindings and boots and what other gear you need to be a ski tourer and climber. You find out how to maintain the gear and how to choose and buy the proper equipment.
Then you start your practice skiing with skins on the bottoms of your skis. You learn how to ascend and descend, how to manage on ice, crust and deep powder. You don't need to be an advanced skier - at the beginning it is enough to know that the curved ski tip goes first... The rest is our business. After the first downhill runs you will be looking a little like a snowman, but this is part of the charm of this passion.
Finally, after your first turns in fresh powder you will be orgasmically happy. New slopes, virgin, white snow, steep gullies - the world belongs to you. However, when you go backcountry skiing, you may meet avalanches and therefore you find out how to avoid them, how to assess the avalanche hazard and everything that is important. You find out how to survive a storm, what to do in case of an accident, how to dig out an emergency snow shelter such as a snow cave or igloo and how to build an emergency toboggan from skis. Everything to make sure you go back home in one piece.
